Hainan’s abundant natural resources mahe her rich. Agricultural products grown on Hainan included bananas, binlang (or betal nut), coconuts, litchi, longan, mangoes and many other varieties of tropical fruit. With large tracts of tropical rainforest stoll undamaged by man Hainan boast a forest coverage rate of 58% or more. There are over 4000 types of plant native to the island of which 630 are uniquely hainanese. The coastline stetches 1528 kilometers with sixty eight natural harbors. More than 800 different kinds of minerals found on Hainan, thirty six of which are both valuable and found in large enough quantities to mine. The coastal waters are rich in oil and natural gas of which  its estimated more than 700 billion cubic meters of the 1040 billion cubic meters will be extractable.

Relying on its unique natural environment Hainan’s economy focuses primarily on tourism, real estate and tropical agriculture. In recent years real estate (especially winter properties) has shown rapid development and blooming sales. Tropical fruits, seafoods, and other agricultural products swll well on both domestic and international markets. The current economy is primarily tourism bases as rapid growth in this sector has produced a system capable of providing all the necessary requirement for torist reception and service. The tourist economy of Hainan is built around five important factors,: Foods, Housing, Transportation, Travel, Shopping, and Entertainment. The current annual capacity is twenty five million visitors per year.

Hainan has a tropical monsoon climate, fresh air, plenty of sunshine, abundant vegetation, long summers, and no winters of which to speak . The “sunshine is land” gets approximately 300 days sunshine per year.The mountainous center of island has the lowest temperature while the southwestern portion of the island reaches an average annual high of 23.8 C. July’s average temperature is 28.4 C.

Population and Ethnic Groups:

Thirty Seven distinct ethnic group call Hainan home with the Han, Hui, Li and Miao or Hmog having the lagest Populations. The total population of Hainan is 8.5 million -1.4 million which are ethnic minorities. With 1.1 million Li resident on Hainan island the province is famous in China as a Li Minority region. Hainan is also known fot its high population of returned overseas Chinese (more than million).

Hainan  Province also known as or the “jade Island “ is located on the Southermost tip of China. The province includes the main island. The Zhongsha and Xisha island, the Spratly Archipelago and the territorial waters surrounding these islands. With the largest ocean area (2.1 million square kilometers) and the smallest land area (3.4 million square kilometers), Hainan is both China’s lagest and smallest province. Taiwan is only Chinese island larger than Hainan. The provincial capital, Haikou, is located at the north end of the island.
